Ahead of Schedule: NC Forces Students to Buy Health Insurance That Pays for Abortions

Students for Life of America has revealed that the North Carolina Board of Governors is requiring all of the students of the University of North Carolina institution carry health insurance this year.

From the Students for Life release:

“Students who do not already have private health insurance are required to buy a state selected policy from Pearce & Pearce, Inc

“This mandated policy covers up to $500 toward elective abortions and has 80% PPO coverage for elective abortions.

“The Pearce & Pearce policy costs students $744 per year or $375 per semester. The State of North Carolina will not be paying into the policy; rather, the students who are required to purchase the insurance will be required to pay the entire cost.”

 Sound familiar? It should.

Because a student is enrolled in the University of North Carolina educational institution, they are required to have health insurance. On a national level, just because someone is an American citizen, they are required to have health insurance (the individual mandate provision).

The government has said that supposedly there will be policies that won’t include abortion coverage that pro-lifers can purchase. But what if those policies don’t include everything someone needs to stay healthy and the only plans that work are the ones that include abortion coverage? It’s a likely scenario.

For the pro-life students or even those students who don’t think that their dollars should pay for abortions, there is no other option. They are FORCED to fund something they find morally reprehensible.

Students for Life of America has a new website dedicated to raising awareness of this issue and is asking people to sign a petition against the forced mandate and contact the NC Board of Governors Chairman on this issue. Go here to check it out: http://www.noabortioninhealthcare.com/NC/Home.html.

Nancy Pelosi Pretends She’s a Catholic Theologian (Again)

Because we haven’t written on Nancy Pelosi in awhile and because the things the supposedly Catholic Speaker of the House says are too ridiculous not to bring to your attention, here we go.

Nancy Pelosi said earlier this year, when talking about the massive healthcare bill, that she wanted to pursue policies “in keeping with the values” of Jesus Christ, the “Word made Flesh.” Which is why she passed a bill that allowed for government funding of abortion of course.

At a press briefing last week, a CNSNews.com reporter reminded Pelosi of her previous statement and of the very fact that the bill takes life rather than saves it.

Pelosi, the quick Catholic thinker that she is, declined to say when Jesus obtained the right to life.

“Whenever it was,” said Pelosi, “we bow our heads when we talk about it in church, and that’s where I’d like to talk about that.”

That part where we “bow our heads” is during the Nicene Creed when we profess how Jesus came into this world:

by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.

In other words, we bow because we acknowledge that extraordinary miracle of the Incarnation, the moment of Christ’s conception when God became man, yet still retained his divine nature.

The reporter followed up with a question about Christ’s conception and if that was when Jesus got the right to life. Through her press secretary, the answer was: “The speaker answered the question. Thanks.”

The Catechism of the Catholic Church, along with science, also makes it very clear when life begins: “From its conception, the child has the right to life.” (2322

So Called Ban on Abortion Funding – Anti-Catholic History – Faith vs Works

I thought there is no public funding of abortion?

I wonder what Sister Carol Keehan, Bart Stupak and all the so-called Catholic health organizations think about U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi receiving an award from abortion giant Planned Parenthood in recognition of her efforts in ensuring that the abortion funding ban was not inserted in ObamaCare. Never mind, I don’t want to know.

History and Catholicsim:

I’m not looking to re-fight the Thirty Years War or defend all the actions of Mary I of England, but this interesting article should remind all Catholics that most of the history books we read are written by people that at their core are anti-catholic. If you like to read a good history of the Catholic Church to recommend Harry Crocker’s book:

Faith vs Works?  I choose Christ.

The New Oxford Review has a wonderful piece by Stephen Rombouts. He takes on the debate between faith versus works and talks about having a “truly personal relationship with Jesus” through the Eucharist.

Oops, She Did It Again

We’d rather not write about this since it’s so depressing but hopefully bishops will take into account Nancy Pelosi’s loooong list of public transgressions against the Roman Catholic Church, of whom she considers herself a member, and consider serious disciplinary actions.

It’s time for Pelosi to take some serious heat for her anti-Catholic comments, not necessarily because they are anti-Catholic, but rather because she is a public figure who claims to be Catholic and because of her power, heretical statements she spouts frequently can lead the faithful astray.

She praised the nuns who threw their support behind the healthcare reform legislation the week before it was voted upon in the House of Representatives. When speaking to the Catholic Community Conference yesterday, she said this:

“I thank so many of you who helped get that passed. Thank God for the nuns. Thank God for the nuns

“Thank God for the nuns — and nuns, imagine, 50, 60 leaders of orders representing 59,000 orders — and I didn’t realize it was Dominican, Benedictine and Franciscan, Notre Dame de L’Amour, Notre Dame School Sisters, every possible kind of name you can think of, there they were on the list.  And they wrote to us saying, ‘We support this life-affirming legislation.’ We were so proud of them and they helped us do just that.”

CNSNews.com has the full story here.

Thankfully Bishop Brandt, near Pittsburgh, already publicly chastised an order of nuns who signed that letter to Obama in the 11thhour in support of the pro-abortion healthcare legislation by refusing to allow them to recruit new members in his district.

Pelosi should be next in line.

Nuns Face Consequences of Supporting Healthcare Reform Bill

During the tail end of the healthcare reform fight, several supposedly Catholic orders of nuns weighed in for the bill, even though it funded abortion and didn’t protect the conscience rights of healthcare professionals. They signed a letter that went to President Obama on March 17th in support of the bill, which was in direct opposition to the US Conference of Catholic Bishops.

Some of those nuns, specifically the Sisters of St. Joseph, are now facing the consequences for publicly supporting the atrocious legislation – they are being barred from recruiting new nuns in a diocese in Pennsylvania, right outside of Pittsburgh. The nuns are launching a recruiting drive through ads and community events and Bishop Lawrence Brandt has refused to allow them to add to their members when they so blatantly opposed the Church by publicly supporting the healthcare legislation and the Church’s teachings regarding the sanctity of life.

Brandt “has a right to disapprove a request from a religious community that wants to host a recruitment event when that community has taken a public stance in opposition to the church’s teaching on human life,” the diocese said in a statement dated April 15.

“Furthermore,” the statement continued, “an environment of dissent from and public opposition to the positions of the U.S. Catholic bishops does not provide an appropriate seedbed for vocations.”

Bishop Brandt isn’t alone. In Providence, R.I., the bishop there ordered a “diocesan-sponsored health care system to withdraw from the Catholic Health Association, which also supported the health care bill.”

We are glad to see the bishops exercising their roles as teachers of the faith and taking actions to uphold the Church’s teachings and reprimand those who publicly oppose and encourage dissent from the teachings of the Church.

2nd Undercover Planned Parenthood Video Catches Staff Giving Out Medical Misinformation

Community Health Centers got an $11 billion infusion when President Obama signed the healthcare legislation. CHCs are centers that provide basic healthcare but aren’t prohibited from doing abortions. Planned Parenthood clinics that have a wide range of health services, including abortions, could fit the definition of a CHC.

Besides covering up child rape and abuse and urging teens to keep their abortions a secret from their parents, Planned Parenthood staff are also deliberately giving out medical misinformation to women seeking abortions, as this latest undercover video from Live Action indicates.

In the video, a Planned Parenthood employee tells a woman who is reportedly 6-8 weeks pregnant that her unborn child has “no arms, no legs, no heart no head, no brain” despite medical and scientific facts of fetal development.

Take a look:

Elections have consequences. By electing pro-choice politicians and the most pro-abortion politician in history as President of the United States, this is what taxpayers will be funding.

This isn’t a Death Panel?

We would bet a million dollars that what you would consider a medically necessary procedure when you are seriously ill and need expensive treatment would differ greatly from the government’s “Advisory Panel” charged with deciding what treatments you will actually get.

Nahhh…  we shouldn’t have to worry about death panels!  Our government has plenty of money!

NJ Governor Cuts Planned Parenthood Funding

The ramifications of the nation swinging back to conservative roots is apparent in, of all places, liberal New Jersey.

Yesterday, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, a Roman Catholic, delivered a second punch to Planned Parenthood, removing a waiver that would have let the abortion giant get reimbursed with taxpayer dollars for services, including abortion.

A Planned Parenthood representative supposedly said this move could force them to close 4 of their 5 centers.

Just recently when Governor Christie released the state budget, he eliminated $7.6 million in family planning services, most of which went to Planned Parenthood.

NJ Right to Life clarifies that the “family planning” money the state gives to organizations like Planned Parenthood isn’t supposed to fund abortion but that is essentially refunds PP for performing abortions. Supposedly taxpayer dollars can’t fund abortions and abortion facilities have to keep funds separate if they go to an organization that does abortions.

“Their clinics make a profit from referring for abortion and they then refer the minor girl to one of their clinics that perform abortions. It’s time this gravy train ended. Taxpayers should not be funding this organization. Governor Christie should be commended for this courageous move,” [Marie]Tasy, [President of NJ Right to Life] added.

How right Ms. Tasy is. As readers of this blog know well, Planned Parenthood has been caught numerous times failing to report child rape and abuse and helping a minor get around pesky parental notification and consent laws in order to make sure the girl has an abortion.

NJ joins seven other states who have also cut funds to Planned Parenthood for both abortion and non-abortion services. If you want to thank Gov. Christie, you can contact him here http://www.state.nj.us/governor/contact.

Remembering Terri Schiavo

Today marks the 5th anniversary of the death of Terri Schiavo, after a judge ruled that her feeding tube had to be removed. Her family fought for her to be kept alive but ultimately lost a very public battle.

Bobby Schindler, Terri’s brother, writes today that:

It is difficult to believe this much time has passed since that horrible day – an event which will be forever seared into my memory.

I wish I could say things have changed for the better since my sister’s death, or that people with cognitive disabilities are now better protected in response to the horror she had to endure.

Tragically, however, the rights of the brain-injured, elderly and others are still being violated.

Bobby goes on to talk about the offensive Family Guy episode where they parodied a musical about Terri’s death. Jill Stanek has more here.

Now with the signing of the healthcare bill into law, it is very likely that rationing will occur, especially to those who are special needs children or for adults like Terri who need more care than others. We must continue to fight for the rights of all peoples – from the unborn to natural death.

To commemorate the 5th anniversary of Terri’s death, her family is hosting a benefit concert on April 11th in Indianapolis, IN featuring country music legends Randy Travis and Collin Raye. There’s still time to buy your tickers to support the foundation! Go here for more info: http://www.lifeandhopeconcert.org/.
