While I am sympathetic to the thrust of this petition, I believe it misses the larger point: there should never be such a thing as an “Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships” in our Federal gov’t to begin with, regardless of who the president is!
This is why the faithful should have been highly critical of the creation of governemental faith-based initiatives under Bush. Besides being Constitutionally questionable, one had to know that this same concept would, at some point in the future, be guided by a president whom you do not agree with.
For this reason, we should petition, not for Knox to be removed, but for the entire office itself to be disbanded.

I am a practicing Catholic and a member of the Knights of Columbus. The magisterium has never taught that the Death Penalty is wrong of itself. Neither is it stated in the Bible at any time. Some believe one way and some another. That is not what this petition is about and the last posting before mine should be removed for that reason (along with this one once that is done).

this pope is probably the most corrupt of our time. evil, hateful, vindictive, anti-gay, anti-women, part of a malignant male celibate disfunctional hierarchy that will destroy the Cathloic Church. We can only rely on voices of reason on the margins, the Jusuits and the Franciscans to pick up the pieces and clean out the moral rot this pope will leave behind. All this resulting from the murder of John Paul I by Opus Dei.

I’d be surprised if your petition is really looked at. If this is given to someone actually able to affect change in the administration. A quick look at the comments section will quickly persuade that person that pushing for the resignation of Harry will not gain them any voters as most posters and likely most signers of this petition have already firmly decided not to support the administration. If anything, following up on this petition will loose the administration supporters.

Supporters who would likely feel that the administration was catering to special interest groups (in this case Catholics) and vote differently next election.

This is why people rarely change their position in politics. Change from what a politician is already doing could kill their next campaign, in fact, politicians who do are usually referred to a flip-floppers in a derogatory manner.

A better tactic might be to try and convince moderates that this administration is not acting in their best interests and persuade them to vote differently next election. Espousing the evils (merely perceived, or in fact) may not be enough though, you must also convince them that the alternative is better. Yay! Two-party system!

Two final notes: 1) When I start reading emotional comments on the internet, I rarely finish as there is rarely any substance there (Obama is Evil! Bush is Evil!) 2) If you’re going to try and persuade anyone to change their political views you had best be ready to listen if you intend on speaking.

This is all opinion and I have regrettably never taken a politics class.
