Video: Obama Advisor Will Not Back Off Comments Attacking Pope

CNS News has a video and story up in which Harry Knox, who serves on President Obama’s Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, reasserts his comments made back in March that Pope Benedict is “hurting people in the name of Jesus.”

Read and see it here.

Seems to not quite fit with the warm and fuzzy name of the Council on which Mr. Knox sits, and suggests the Obama Administration’s utter disdain for the Holy Father and Catholics.

Please circulate this to all of your Catholic family, friends and colleagues.  Expose the outrage and sign our petition.

We the undersigned, call for the immediate resignation of Harry Knox, who serves on President Obama’s Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships.

Recently, Mr. Knox once again expressed his prejudice against the Pope and by extension all Catholics when he reaffirmed his view that the Pope "is hurting people in the name of Jesus."

These comments expose that Mr. Knox is openly hostile towards Catholics and their religious leader and should disqualify him from public service in an organization that "will work on behalf of Americans committed to improving their communities, no matter their religious or political beliefs."

Would you help with this cause? time is of essence! PLEASE…

“To save one life is like saving the whole world!”

Please take a few moments and help save the life of Martin Grossman

    http://www.thepetitionsite.com/2/save-martin-grossman
    http://www.fadp.org/takeact.html

We need your help today to save the life of Martin Grossman who is set to be executed on February 16th. We are only advocating that he not get the death penalty at this time. We are asking that the Governor take the time to hold a proper clemency hearing to determine if the Death Penalty is really appropriate in this case. This may not be easy for you to go out of your way to try and save the life of someone who took someone else’s life but we must do what is just and right and what the Bible teaches us is correct.

I signed your petition even though I’m not Catholic. I am LDS, which means I don’t have the same belief in the Pope as Catholics have. But I don’t believe in attackiing people of other faiths or that the world is going to hang on my opinion of other faiths… which is clearly what Harry Knox believes. He is fostering intolerance and wanting to control religion in a Gestapo fashion, and that is exactly opposite of what his position is supposed to be doing. He is wrong for this country and he is wrong for the position, and Obama needs to remove him in favor of a less devisive and hateful candidate. I’m with you in spirit even if I’m not with you in faith. Harry Knox has to go.

When will the Catholic clergy finally wake up, get some spine and realize that staying defanged in an effort to keep tax exempt status is a recipe for empty churches and a public that simply doesn’t care about being Christian. The government and the media for the last 40 years have been in permanent attack mode on the Church AND its beliefs – its time to stop turning the other cheek for Christ’s sake! Abject weakness, bureaucratic inertia – welcome to modern Catholicism. This isn’t what Christians are about, what Catholics should be about – show some vigor, and get loud about it. A petition? Speak out in a direct manner – endorse candidates – let them try to change your tax status – get public or disappear. Another generation and the Catholic church in America is finished. Don’t you people have your eyes open to what is going on? What has been done to you by the mainstream media and by Democrat politicians?

Are we surprised? At the prayer breakfast Hilary Clinton managed, I am sure on purpose, to denigrate and insult 85% of the American people who belong to an organized religion. I realize these elite marxist/progressives don’t believe in anything but gaining control and power over the “little people” who do believe and do practice their faith. I say good luck with those future elections.

Barack Obama said during his campaign, “Judge me by my associates”. So it make’s it very difficult to form anything but a negative opinion of this man when he sat in Jeremiah Wrights Church for twenty years, when he launched his political career in the home of Willaim Ayres and Bernardine Dohrn, the leaders of the Weather Underground who bombed the World Trade Center. When his mentor was Frank Marshal Davis, a member of the Communist Party USA.

There is a saying, Tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are. So lets not set our expectations too high for Barack Obama. His goals, his expectations, and his actions differs from ours and our Catholic Church.

    Mr. Ahlquist,
I agree that we don’t and shouldn’t call for the censure and removal of anyone who hapens to disagree with our relgious views, but obviously one who holds his bekief is the wrong man to be in charge of faith based initiatives. If Knox were the Treasury Secretary it would not make a difference what his view of the Pope or the Ccatholic Church was. But name me one other faith based organization who has contributed more to charity and to elimating humnan suffering of people all around the world, regardles of their faith, than the Catholic Church. And that’s what we are talking about. Knox’s view/predjudice against the Church obviously does not allow him to recognize the value of the Catholic Church in its charitable role, and thats why he shoud be removed.

This is amazing, Obama comes in as a uniter not a divider yet he brings in the most divisive extremists ever to the Presidential Office/staff.

This idiot is the the director of a presidential faith based advisory panel yet the man has the audacity to outwardly degrade the largest Christian group in the nation…and the world and its spritiual leader. What is he thinking?

Well I think it is time for Catholics (as well as other Christians and people of faith) to stand up to this anti-FAITH bigotry ironically coming from an individual heading a presidential advisory panel established to coordinate respect and unity among faith based organizations.

He is so arrogant he simultaneously insults scientific research as he completely disregards the statements of the director of of the AIDS Prevention Research Project at Harvard (as if he or someone else was more qualified) simply because it backs the Pope:

I am Catholic and am very appalled at the comments made by Harry Knox.Everyone does have a right to free speech, however it certainly sounds like his opinion is against the catholic faith and the pope. Most of the Obama administration are progressives and lean toward socialism. I don’t understand why they single out the catholics and christians who stand up for their faith and beliefs. I question Obama’s own faith when he stated “America is no longer a Christian nation.” His own true colors are starting to come out. Maybe that is why he chose this man to head the Faith Based Advisory Council. To speak for what he wants to say. To John: If indeed Martin Grossman is innocent save him. However the Bible does mention a man shall be put to death if he intentionally kills another. This can be found in Exodus 21:12-25. Chrisitan or not, we need to stand up and call for this man’s resignation.

Although I am not a Catholic I am truly concerned about the path our administration is going down.
There seems to be a combined effort in Washington to make those of us who are considered “People of Faith” to be non Americans. I for one believe in what the Founding Fathers wanted for this nation, and I am sure it was not what our current President and his so called advisors are doing.
As for the comments on the Pope I believe that we can trust the Lord to vindicate him and expose the truth of his statemants.
    God Bless America

  24. Posted February 6, 2010 at 4:55 pm | Permalink

Why is disagreement bigotry? I thought America had freedom of speech. Pointing out that the Pope’s discouragement of condom use is destructive to Africa is not anti-Catholic or anti-Christian nor is it anti-faith.

As a matter of fact it is the truth. When you spread the lie that condom use actually spreads HIV/AIDS you are intentionally destroying lives. How dare you try to silence him with ad hominem attacks by calling him a bigot.

He is actually a good example of how politicians should be using their public office. If pissing off some Catholics is required to get the message out then so be it. I have more respect for politicians who are willing to risk their positions to do what they believe in than those just trying to gain political favour.

If those of you calling him intolerant were any bit tolerant of him then you would be attacking his position on the issue which is condom use in Africa rather than making baseless personal attacks.

And I’m sorry, but the fact that the Catholic Church has done a lot of charitable work does not excuse them from such a grave mistake.

This isn’t a matter of religion, its about ethics and civility.

A comment was made in regard to Islam and how this action wouldn’t be taken if Islam was being attacked by the US leadership. Apparently that person has been living under a rock. Islam attacks anyone for the slightest negative comment or cartoon. Its politically incorrect to attack Islam but its correct to unjustly attack Catholism or Christianity as a whole.

This petition is an attempt to get politicians to leave religion out of their business and obey the will of their constituents.

The politicians only lean on separation of Church and State when it suites them, but otherwise set forth attempts to destroy Christianity and create their own progressive religion based on humanism, socialism, and communism.

To the politician, its not a matter of no religion its about which religion. The current administration has created their own religion which is at odds with Christianity. Islam is their friend for now because they share a common enemy, Christianity. So you will not hear them slam Islam in an unjust manner, or in a just manner for that matter.

Christians are not seeking the dismissal of government officials because of their insults, we are accustomed to that and born again with strength to handle that, rather, we are attempting to get our elected officials, and their appointees, to do their jobs and stop attacking their citizenry for their beliefs which differ from the their own.

Whether the politicians like it or not the majority of the people in the US are Christians and think in terms of Christian values. Therefore, it is incumbent on them to not make comments or laws that offend the majority of the citizens.

This is supposedly a democracy where we do have freedom of speech, but with freedom comes resposibility. Yes they can say all they want to, but does that mean that we have to agree and have no freedom to speak out and state our offenses and change our elected leadership? Is freedom of speech a one way street? If you can’t take it don’t dish it out. If you don’t want to be deposed or offended then don’t offend.

Do unto others as you’d have them do unto you.

May God have mercy on us all!

I do not think Obama will replace Knox. I think his appointment of Knox is revenge because the Pope refused to accept Obama’s selections for Vatican representative. Like the Pope would ever accept a representative from a country’s party who is Pro-Choice or Pro-Death. I believe he had three of his representatives turned down. Hmmm I wonder why? Duh! It’s what I would expect from him.

With all due respect to Christians, Mr. Knox is absolutely correct. As part of the Catholic faith, it is a sin to use a condom or a contraceptive, as it potentially prevents the woman from having a child (this fits in with their view on abortion). As such, they forbid the use of condoms or other contraceptives among their faithful. Over the years, they have gone to Africa and developed a faith base there. As of now, Africa is in the middle of an AIDS epidemic. If a man has AIDS and his wife doesn’t, he is NOT ALLOWED to use a condom if he wishes to have sex with her. If he wishes to have sex with her, it must be without a condom. Naturally, she’s going to get AIDS if he doesn’t use the condom. But, they love each other, so they do it anyway. It is this very Catholic stance on the issue that is spreading AIDS like wildfire and killing so many Africans. They won’t even allow condoms if it means preventing disease. That’s sickening.

The pope teaches as he does regarding homosexuality to prevent people from getting hurt – to be honest, more likely maimed or mutilated. The homosexual relationships are neither happy nor healthful – as their elevated rates of mortality and violence indicate. Preventing such harm also means refusing to be co-dependant liar for those caught up in the homosexual culture. What about you, Mr. Knox? Of course, it is not just the Catholic Church, but the Bible that proscribes homosexual practice. I suppose it is not yet time for the Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships to take on all biblical religions.

Pope’s of the past have been misguided on certain issues and this one may be too. I don’t see how any Christian, including the Pope, could find Knox’s statements objectionable. All Christians (including the Pope) knows that the Pope is capable of sin. All Christians (including the Pope) knows that sin hurts our fellow-humans. All Christians (including the Pope) know that the sins we commit, as well as the charitable deeds we do, reflect on the name of our Lord. I’d be surprised if your petition is really looked at. If this is given to someone actually able to affect change in the administration. A quick look at the comments section will quickly persuade that person that pushing for the resignation of Harry will not gain them any voters as most posters and likely most signers of this petition have already firmly decided not to support the administration. If anything, following up on this petition will loose the administration supporters.

Supporters who would likely feel that the administration was catering to special interest groups (in this case Catholics) and vote differently next election.

This is why people rarely change their position in politics. Change from what a politician is already doing could kill their next campaign, in fact, politicians who do are usually referred to a flip-floppers in a derogatory manner.

A better tactic might be to try and convince moderates that this administration is not acting in their best interests and persuade them to vote differently next election. Espousing the evils (merely perceived, or in fact) may not be enough though, you must also convince them that the alternative is better. Yay! Two-party system!

Two final notes: 1) When I start reading emotional comments on the internet, I rarely finish as there is rarely any substance there (Obama is Evil! Bush is Evil!) 2) If you’re going to try and persuade anyone to change their political views you had best be ready to listen if you intend on speaking.

This is all opinion and I have regrettably never taken a politics class.

this pope is probably the most corrupt of our time. evil, hateful, vindictive, anti-gay, anti-women, part of a malignant male celibate disfunctional hierarchy that will destroy the Cathloic Church. We can only rely on voices of reason on the margins, the Jusuits and the Franciscans to pick up the pieces and clean out the moral rot this pope will leave behind. All this resulting from the murder of John Paul I by Opus Dei.

I am a practicing Catholic and a member of the Knights of Columbus. The magisterium has never taught that the Death Penalty is wrong of itself. Neither is it stated in the Bible at any time. Some believe one way and some another. That is not what this petition is about and the last posting before mine should be removed for that reason (along with this one once that is done).

Harry Knox is 100% correct and should go further… This guy Benedict is an dangerous, ignorant man.

While I am sympathetic to the thrust of this petition, I believe it misses the larger point: there should never be such a thing as an “Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships” in our Federal gov’t to begin with, regardless of who the president is!
This is why the faithful should have been highly critical of the creation of governemental faith-based initiatives under Bush. Besides being Constitutionally questionable, one had to know that this same concept would, at some point in the future, be guided by a president whom you do not agree with.
For this reason, we should petition, not for Knox to be removed, but for the entire office itself to be disbanded.
    Peace be with you.

Oh my lord. If I see ONE MORE PERSON say how horrible socialism is and how our president is such a bloody socialist, i’m gonna blow. Here is some news, all presidents are socialists! have you ever heard of the public school sistem? The Army, Navy, Airforce, Or Marine Corps? ALL SOCIALIST INSTITUTIONS! In the words of Inigo Montoya, “You keep yousing that word” “I do not the it means, what you think it means”. People like this discredit a valid cause. I hope that all those people who voted for Obama sees him for what he is now. And that Obama is a liar. If Obama is really a christian like he said he was, Obama would’ve immediately fire this man for such an outrageous comment.
