CBS Under Pressure to Scrap Pro-Life Ad Featuring Football Star

Update II: Penny Nance, CEO of Concerned Women for America, finds it absurd that NOW is even talking about the Tebow ad since they never cared about preview ads that demeaned women:

In the 3½ years that I advised FCC Chairman Kevin Martin on indecency issues I can’t recall one time that NOW ever spoke out about the sexually graphic or misogynistic content on CBS.I find it laughable that NOW has a problem with Tim Tebow sharing his own story.

If NOW really cared about women they would stop flacking for the abortion industry and start working on behalf of women and their concerns regarding sexually graphic and violent content on TV.

Update: Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List, hits back at NOW’s (National Organization of Women) protests over the Tebow ad with a few zingers of her own as the pro-choice women’s group searches for a way to make itself relevant in an increasingly pro-life America:

NOW and company are losing their grip as their pro-abortion position sinks in public opinion. I had no idea NOW leaders were such experts on sports. Missed that part of their mission.

What is real here is their desperation to keep full information from women. Shouldn’t the “pro-choice” position respect Pam Tebow’s decision to choose Life?  What is the worst case scenario in allowing the ad to air?  Women are exposed to an example of sacrifice for the sake of an unborn child. NOW needs to explain where the harm and threat to women and children is here

University of Florida Gators Heisman Trophy winning, All-Star Quarterback, Tim Tebow, is an outspoken advocate for the unborn. Maybe that is because his mother was told to abort him and chose life instead.

Feeling the need to share his story in celebration of life, Tebow has teamed up with the well-known, pro-life, pro-family organization Focus on the Family to air a 30 second commercial during this year’s Super Bowl.

If you have not heard about the ad, it is a very simple celebration of life on the part of a family.  As the AP describes it:

We hope you will take time to either call or e-mail CBS and encourage them not to cave into pressure from the abortion industry and its advocates.

I am writing to ask you to continue with the ad from Focus on The Family by Tim Tebow. As a woman, I am offended by the “Feminist Majority”. How did they get that title? Most women I know are pro life. I often challenge people who claim to be Pro Choice to watch a video of an abortion. None have ever met that challenge. I am proud to know that a commercial will air that will support the right to life.
    Thank you

Please keep this commercial and run it during the Super Bowl! Why would it be considered bad to celebrate life during any event? If we can’t express joy over the gift of life, then what kind of people have we become?

I think it is appalling that the Tebow ad would be pulled when you allow such trashy, distasteful ads on during the superbowl.

Janet Jackson’s top can fall down, and we can’t talk about how separating mothers from babies hurts both! The truth must be spoken.

I am pleased to know that we can expect a commercial that shares celebrating new life. I have always thought of most abortions as legalized murder and I look forward to CBS’ Pro-Life add on for the Super Bowl. Life is precious and certainly the unborn need a spokesperson. Again – GO CBS!!And, I am a big fan of Tim Tebow and of Focus on the Family. God bless!

While the people of Haiti struggle to pick up the pieces of their lives after the terrible earthquake, some US feminist citizens use their time and energy to convince CBS to not air the Tebow ad during the Super Bowl which celebrates life and families. Where is our country headed???

    Mr McManus,

Please don’t hesitate to run this ad. All of us are the result of parents that chose life. We wouldn’t be here to voice an opinion otherwise.

I am looking forward to seeing the Tebow ad during the commercial time on Super Sunday. I believe that it is important for everyone to know that life is to be treasured, for any life is amazing, a point clearly shown by a superstar football player and his courageous mother. America has always been and will always be a free country, and CBS has the freedom to advertise the truth.

I’m very glad to finally hear someone airing an ad “against abortion”. Killing is killing – no matter how small the person is! Per a prior comment made – oba** and care should never be used in the same sentence. Please do NOT scrap the ad. Air it. Please. Thank you CBS for having the guts to do what’s right!

Super Bowl ads are about money. Pay up, get your ad aired. The sponsor is paying. What’s the problem?

Please allow Mr. Tebow to witness to the gift of life, especially to the courage of women who choose life despite difficult circumstances, as his mother did.

I couldn’t disagree more. CBS has a policy of not accepting advocacy advertising. Regardless of whether the commercial in dispute is a anti-domestic abuse ad or a pro-life ad, the ad goes against CBS’s long-standing policy. If you care so much about the ad, what are YOU doing to advocate the pro-life movement? You shouldn’t need CBS to do your work for you.

Please keep this commercial that celebrates life and run it during the Super Bowl! It is wonderful to celebrate life during any event because we are alive and need to promote the joy of life. If we are not allowed to express joy over the gift of life, then what kind of people have we become? We the people – we who are alive – want to promote family goodness of life to stop the killing of children, grandchildren, sisters, brothers that are no more. Please promote Tim Tebow’s 30 second story, and there are probably millions more just like him – Life is good. Thank you.

Dear Tim,I know God is smiling down on you and I highly encourage you to keep the ad. Every other ad denounces women as objects but you are promoting their unique quality of being life-giving. It is important to me that people realize how many people aren’t here because of abortion.(People that could go on to do great things, like you!) Bless you!

You should air the ad bacause in abortion they burn the babies from the inside out to kill them or they rip them apart!(Would you want to be burned alive? NO!) The truth isn’t pretty, but pro-life is! Also IF IT’S NOT A BABY, THEN YOU’RE NOT PREGNANT!

I have always admired Tim Tebow and pray for his continued courage. Part of me would love to see CBS pull the ad and end up getting the WORST RATINGS EVER for a Super Bowl after ALL pro-life people boycotted it as a witness to the over 50 million babies.

In the spirit of fair play why would anyone want to refuse to play an ad that promotes the life of a well known and respected football player…..especially on Super Bowl Day????
Let’s give it a try before censoring it’s content!

Tim Tebow’s message should be aired!!! It is a beautiful message of life and of a family celebrating life. Tell the NOW to sit down and SHUT UP!! UGH, I am so tired of these liberal whack jobs running around screaming about every little thing that does not agree with their position.

We don’t like your message about abortion, so I guess we are even!

Please continue to have the courage to run this commercial. There are some who are against it sure but there are so many more who support this decision. It’s the right thing to do and for once, it would be nice and refreshing for someone out there to do the right thing. CBS be the leader and pave the way!

I truly hope CBS airs this commercial. How sad is that that they can air such trashy commercials, but when it comes to something as beautiful as the miracle of life, it is looked down upon? As a mother of two, I had to hear my two little innocent children cry in pain as their little heal got pricked in the hospital, can you imagine what the innoncent baby that is getting aborted feels? Please air this commercial. America needs this!

    Sean,

God Bless you. Please air the commercial. I am a woman who has had an abortion. I wish my Son could stand up there today, tall, handsome, bright and full of enegery like Tim Tebow. Are how about a Kurt Warner. Unfortunately, that will never happen… I took my childs life in 1980 and suffered for 25 years before I spoke out. Now, I speak out all over the Country about the devastation of Abortion… Believe me the Feminist have given me a hard time… But, I am crucified in Christ…

I read the comments from everyone who emailed you to keep the commercial on… God Bless All of you….

God Bless All of the Christian Super Stars who stand up for their beliefs…

It is so fresh & gratifying that Tim Tebo would support life with this wonderful testimony about his mother. He is my hero not on the field but off the field for his conviction to stand up for life. He is a true role model for all ages! God Bless Tim for his witness to life!
