NJ Has a New (Practicing) Catholic Governor!

chris christieWhile voters in Massachusetts are poised to participate in perhaps the biggest election shock of the century if they elect Republican Scott Brown, voters in New Jersey already made history last fall when they elected Chris Christie, the first Republican governor in eight years.

And Chris Christie is not only a Republican but he’s also a practicing Catholic. He started off Inauguration Day this morning with a beautiful Inaugural Mass at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in his birthplace of Newark, NJ.

Christie’s son read a passage from the book of Wisdom and Archbishop John Joseph Myers, who presided over the Mass, said in his homily that Christie will most certainly need that wisdom:

“We pray you will be blessed with wisdom, even more we pray you will be blessed with the wisdom of Solomon — you will need it,” Myers said.

This is truly a great day for New Jerseyans as they finally have a Catholic leader who has pledged to follow the doctrine of his faith.

Christie, a practicing Catholic, has promised to pursue an agenda largely in keeping with church doctrine, including opposition to abortion and gay marriage.

Please pray for newly elected Chris Christie as he assumes his role as Governor of New Jersey and let’s hope that he leads with the Wisdom of Solomon.
