Two of the St Michael Society editors attended Theology on Tap put on by the Diocese of Arlington. Dr. Jean Elshtain was the speaker at Pat Troy’s in Old Town. Dr Elshtain gave a fascinating talk on the topic of working for the public good. She encouraged Catholics in attendance to get involved in promoting the Catholic perspective but warned against Utopianism. She weaved the writings of St. Augustine in her lively talk and Q&A and reminded us the “City of God” is our Heavenly goal, but not something we can construct here on earth. We as fallen creatures cannot construct perfect state institutions.
